WCHC Programs
Where mentorship meets game day magic. A special WCHC mentorship experience that brings girls of colour together for community, representation, and an unforgettable day centered around professional women's hockey.
Sophie's Sisters is a special WCHC program designed to inspire the next generation of young players through community, mentorship, and representation. Each cohort brings together an intimate group of girls ages 8–18 for a memorable hockey experience centered around PWHL defender Sophie Jaques, the first Black player drafted into the league, a Patty Kazmaier Award winner, and a member of the PWHL's Vancouver Goldeneyes.
The group attends a Vancouver Goldeneyes PWHL game together, cheering on Sophie from the stands and experiencing the excitement of professional women's hockey as a team. After the game, participants enjoy an exclusive meet-and-greet where they have the chance to ask Sophie questions, learn about her journey, and hear firsthand what it means to pursue your dreams in the sport.
Sophie's Sisters creates a moment of joy, connection, and inspiration, helping young girls of colour see themselves in the game and showing them that they belong in every arena they walk into.
The Experience
From the moment they arrive at Pacific Coliseum, participants are treated like VIPs. The day begins with watching Sophie compete against the league's best, then continues with an exclusive post-game meet-and-greet where girls get face time with their hero.
Sophie takes time to answer questions, share her journey, and pose for photos. For many of these young players, meeting a professional athlete who looks like them is a powerful, unforgettable moment.
It's not just about hockey — it's about representation, belief, and belonging.

Sophie Jaques isn't just a talented athlete — she's a trailblazer. As the first Black player ever drafted into the PWHL, Sophie has become a role model for countless young players who have never seen someone who looks like them at the highest levels of the sport.
A graduate of Cornell University where she earned a degree in design, Sophie combines athletic excellence with academic achievement. She was awarded the Patty Kazmaier Award, given annually to the top NCAA women's hockey player in the United States.
Off the ice, Sophie is passionate about giving back and creating pathways for the next generation. Through Sophie's Sisters, she brings her energy, wisdom, and lived experience directly to young players who need it most.
