About WCHC

More than a program.
A movement.

We create access, opportunity, and belonging for women and girls of colour in hockey.

The problem we're solving

Hockey wasn't built with us in mind.

For women and girls of colour, hockey has long been a space where we are underrepresented, underfunded, and often unseen. The barriers aren't just about cost — they're about access, mentorship, community, and feeling like you belong on the ice.

Too many talented players never get the chance to try, to stay, or to lead — not because they lack skill, but because the system wasn't designed for them.

WCHC exists to change that. We build the doors, the pathways, and the community that make hockey truly for everyone.

How we create change

Access. Opportunity. Community.

Access

Breaking down financial and structural barriers so that every girl who wants to play can step onto the ice — regardless of her background or circumstances.

Opportunity

Scholarships, grants, equipment, and mentorship that create real pathways — from first skate to leadership roles in the sport we love.

Community

Building a network where women and girls of colour see themselves reflected, feel supported, and know they belong — on the ice and off.

The Woman Behind the Movement

Led by Saroya Tinker.

Saroya Tinker knows what it means to be the only one in the room. As a Black woman who fell in love with hockey, she experienced firsthand the barriers that exist for women and girls of colour in the sport.

What started as a conversation about representation grew into a movement. WCHC was created from a lived understanding of what it means to navigate spaces where you don't see yourself reflected — and a fierce determination to change that.

Today, Saroya leads an organization that's opening doors, funding dreams, and building community for hundreds of women and girls across Canada.

"Every girl deserves to see herself on the ice. And off it."

— Saroya Tinker, Founder

How we show up

Our Values

01

Representation Matters

Seeing yourself reflected in a sport changes what feels possible. We create that visibility.

02

Access for All

Hockey shouldn't be gated by cost, geography, or circumstance. We tear down those walls.

03

Community First

We build belonging before programs. Every girl who joins WCHC becomes part of something.

04

Lead with Heart

Every decision we make is rooted in compassion, dignity, and the lived experience of our community.

Our Board

WCHC is supported by a board of leaders, advocates, and community builders who help guide the organization's next chapter and expand access across the hockey community.
